Garden City Middle School Sun Safety 2013

The Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation presented their annual sun safe assembly to 6th graders of the Middle School on Thursday, May 23rd. Mrs. Susan Lee, Assistant Principal, explained to the students their responsibility to share with their family and friends the lessons learned in the presentation. Because Memorial Day marks the beginning of the summer season, students will be able to practice sun safe behaviors immediately.

The students viewed “The Dark Side of the Sun”, an educational video produced and created by Mollie’s Fund and MCS Advertising. Dr. Ted Daly, Garden City Dermatology, instructed the 6th graders about being sun protective and being alert if a mole changed. He also questioned the students about facts presented in the film. Dr. John Clarke, the “Physician Musician” wrote and performed an exciting rap song “Stop Melanoma!”. Students enthusiastically joined him in the chorus.

All the students received hats, educational brochures and a download of Dr. Clarke’s song. The Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation thanks Drs. Daly and Clarke for so generously donating their time to support this program.
