A facial cleanses, exfoliates and nourishes the skin to promote clear and well-hydrated skin. There are many different types of facials, but acne facials or deep-cleansing facials differ because extractions are performed along with additional ingredients.
A facial begins with a thorough and deep cleansing with an appropriate cleanser for the skin type, whether normal, dry, oily or combination skin.
An exfoliation is then performed using either a mechanical or chemical exfoliant.
Next is a comforting massage, which is done with steam and massage oils using classic techniques and strokes to both stimulate and promote circulation to the skin.
Extraction of comedones and papules is performed on an as-needed basis. Steam also helps to open the pores and aid the process. The skin is then calmed and cooled with a toner to bring it back to its natural pH.
A facial mask targeted to address specific skin issues and concerns will be applied. A relaxing hand massage is performed while the soothing mask is on.
Hot steam towels are then applied to remove the mask, and the appropriate serum, moisturizer and spf will be applied to conclude the treatment.
A home care regimen is then recommended.
As facials become a part of your skin care routine, best results will be attained if done regularly. Ideally, you should get a facial every four-to-six weeks, or at a minimum four times a year. You should always make your aesthetician aware if you are currently using any prescription topical medications, such as retinoids, or taking Accutane, so that special attention can be given to avoid unwanted skin reactions.
